When we went to see this we didnt really know what this was about. I remember seeing an adaptation on the BBC about 4 or 5 years ago with Rupert Penry - Jones but I couldnt really remember what it was about. It has been one of the shows me and Matt said we wanted to see next and so we got tickets for it on Saturday Night when we were in London. We booked the tickets direct at the theatre box office and paid £38.50 for seats in the stalls.
The first thing we noticed when we got there was how small the theatre was and that it was practically underground! In fact it was weird because during the show you could hear the subway going past!
It is made up of a cast of just 4 people which when I first read I was shocked about, I mean how could you do a west end play with just 4 people!!! I have to say it was very so well done, there is the main character and then the 3 other cast members play multiple roles which is at times absolutely hilarious as you can probably imagine!
The story is about a man called Richard Hanney who becomes tangled in a plot with a group of spies and when a freelance spy is murdered in his flat, he goes on the run to try and uncover the truth of that the 39 steps are.
Obviously I dont want to say too much about what the plots involve in case any of you are planning to go and see it. We said one of the best things about seeing it was the fact that we didnt really know what to expect or what it was about because it meant we didnt know what was going to happen.
If you in London and you get the chance to go and see this then you must. As I say the theatre is quite small so I would imagine where ever you sat, you would have a good view of the stage, we were sat in Row P of the stalls in seats 11 and 12 which was right in the centre of the stalls just where the overhang of the balcony is.
It doesnt look here like the view is good but you were not meant to take picture in the auditorium so i just wanted to sneak a photo so you could get an idea. We could see the stage perfectly.
I would definitely say this is up on my top productions in the west end. It made a nice change to see a play instead of a musical. Although I have only seen a few it is defiantly in my top plays!
Have you seen 39 steps? What did you think?
So after we hot footed to the hotel to drop our bags off we jumped on the tube to Leicester Square to see what we could get. We always get tickets from the same place in Leicester Square; just as you get off the tube by the Hippodrome Casino. However this time we didn't manage to pick up anything and were told to come back on the Saturday morning. We did pop into a couple of theatres during the day and managed to get tickets for 39 Steps, Wicked and the Lion King!!!
We decided this time we were going to go to see some of the museums after saying we would do it nearly every time we went. Friday afternoon we headed over to the Natural History Museum for a couple of hours and Saturday we spent a couple of hours at the Science Museum. On Sunday we did a tour of the Royal Albert Hall, stay tuned for a separate post on that coming this week. Overall it was a fantastic weekend, the shows we saw were absolutely amazing! Again I will do separate posts on these too!
Keep your eyes peeled over the next couple of weeks for individual posts on the things we got up to!
I decided to go for the starter kit (pictured above) which contains a 100ml bottle of Cleanse and Polish and 2 Muslin Clothes. I have used hot cloth cleansers before but the minute I squeezed this little beauty on to the back of my hand and applied it (Like Louise at Sprinkle of Glitter did HERE) - I knew it was special!
I have been using this product since the day I brought it. In fact, there have been no sign of make up wipes since I brought it, I have completely banished them from my skin care routine. This product is absolutely amazing. It gets rid of every single trace of my make up, no panda eyes or anything. And I dont have to scrub my eyes to get rid either. I just massage it in and wipe it off which is fab as I have quite sensitive eyes. I also think the ingredients in this have made my skin look brighter too.
I have already repurchased this product and took advantage of the offers that Liz Earle had on over Christmas! I have also been using some of the other products in the range so keep your eyes peeled for reviews on those!
Are you a Liz Earle fan???
Next was one of the first places I was watching to see what they came up with. I never really bothered with it before, my closest one is so tiny and I never really found anything I liked when I went in - So i stopped bothering. Then I had a couple of nice tops from a massive one which is on one of the retail parks near where I live - Then a couple of things in London when we went last year and now I am hooked! They have some really lovely stuff in there. I have always thought next was a little overpriced but I have found the quality of the things I have purchased to be great!
So I thought I would share with you some of the things which I am lusting over for when we go to Orlando!
- Dip Hem Dress - £22
- Halter tie swim suit - £25
- Textured Cotton Chino Shorts - £16 (avaliable in 5 colours)
- Boob Tube - £10
- Hardware Sandels - £28
- Printed Trousers - £25
- 3/4 leggings - £7
Are you a next fan? What are you loving for Summer 2013?
I fought my way through the startings of snow this week - I had a good week so I was determined to weigh in... I had also brought a countdown which is were you pay for so many weeks up front. I brought the 12 week countdown where you pay for 10 weeks (£49.50) and you get 12 weeks so its like you get 2 weeks free. I quite like to do this because I like to see where I can be at the end of my 12 weeks.
This week I lost another 2 pounds which I was very happy about! This means in the past 2 weeks I have lost 5 pounds! It also meant that I got back up to 1 and a half stone lost. I have been here before but at the latter part of 2012 I was a bit up and down. I am now at _ stone 2 pounds and I would quite like to lose 2 and a half pound this week to go under the next stone. I know this is quite a bit target but I think it would keep me focused this week!!!
Hope you have all had a good week!!!! :)
This week with me going to go out on Monday, mum planned to have something which I didn't like, Orange and Tarragon Chicken. I dont know what it is, there is just some something about Chicken and fruit which I don't like. Anyway with me not going out, and mum having the stuff in, I offered to cook my own tea. She had some extra chicken so I decided to knock up some Chicken Fried Rice as I also had some Brown rice we brought when we went shopping this week which I wanted to try.
That is until my mum received some vouchers from Boots, one of which was £2 any Essie Nail Polish. She knows how much I have lusted over these polishes so she said I could have the voucher.
When I was in town yesterday I nipped into Boots to have a look what they had. I knew a couple of popular shades which I had read about online, so I took to looking at these first. There were some lovely shades, lights, pastels, darks - they had it all.
Essie fans amongst you will notice that this is indeed the popular Essie shade, Mint Candy Apple. I couldnt decide between this one and lilacism but I went for this one. I also picked up another couple of items which I spotted. The 2 save the nail products are by nails inc. These were £3 and £4ish and the pro file was £2.05. I really like this file, it is really course one side and then less so the other side. It really files my nails well and doesnt feel like it will lose its coating easily.
Keep your eyes peeled tomorrow for a NOTD using Essie Mint Candy Apple.
When I read online last year that they were bringing out a movie of this, I went through a mix of emotions. I was excited to see how they portrayed it on the big screen but there had been some amazing actors on the west end who had played the roles, Colm Wilkinson, Michael Ball, Alfie Boe... could they really find a cast of actors to play it on the big screen who matched up to their talents? I kept a close eye as they announced the cast online. Then as the trailers started to come out I got more and more excited to see it! The trailers were amazing!
I went along to the pictures yesterday with Mum and Nanna to see the movie, tissue and waterproof mascara at the ready. I balled like a baby when me and Matt saw the show in the west end and when we saw the 25th Anniversary concert at the cinema. There are certain songs which just make me really tearful... Bring Him Home, Empty Chairs and Empty Tables, I dreamed a dream and the Epilogue... they get me every time.
I have to say I dont think I have every cried so much at a film in my life, and you should have seen me during the last Harry Potter movie. When I came out of the pictures my t shirt was absolutely soaking where tears had ran down my face. It was a good job that I chose to wear waterproof mascara as I would have definitely looked like a panda!
I honestly can not even say how amazing this film is! Director Tom Hooper has done a fantastic job of taking stage to the big screen. The cast were absolutely fantastic. Hugh Jackmans potrayal of Val Jean is amazing. I grew up watching Colm Wilkinson play Val Jean which is a role he is born to play. I have always been a bit dubious that anyone else could be as good until we saw it in the west end when it was understudied by a young lad. It was at the time that Alfie Boe was playing him. When I saw Alfie Boe do it on the 25th Anniversary concert he did a fantastic job. When I found out Hugh Jackman had been cast I wasnt sure but I have to say he was absolutely brilliant. The emotion he brought across was absolutely brilliant and there were several points in the film when I was in tears at the way he acted a scene.
Anne Hathaway did an absolutely fantastic job as Fantine as well. She wasnt in the film for very long but she did an amazing job. Her portrayal of Fantine was breathtaking... especially in the scene when they cut her hair. There was something more heartbreaking knowing that was actually her hair!
I thought Russel Crow did a brilliant job acting as Javert but I didnt think his voice was overly brilliant.
I could go on mentioning all the different members of cast... I wont because this blog post would be extremely long!
Let me just sum up and say this film is absolutely fantastic. It is very well made and offers a chance for the story to be brought together. It is good to see the actual scenes coming to life. I definatley think i you are going to see this, take a packet of tissues with you!!!
Have you seen this movie yet? What did you think???
I know this is the problem with a lot of people. We have all done that thing when we get in after a long day at work, not planned anything for tea and dialed the number of a take away. Its just so easy to do it.
A few weeks ago my mum came home from town spouting a brand new chalk board for our kitchen! It is SO perfect for planning...
I mean seriously how good is this board! And the best thing of all is the price! This little beauty was £1.99 from Home Bargains.
I cant tell you what a difference having this board has made. This photo was taken last week which if you saw my blog post yesterday you will have seen resulted in a 3 pound weight loss. Last week we sat down with the board in 1 hand and the lap top in the other and we planned the meals for the week and then did the online shopping based on what we were having in the week. We have just finished doing exactly the same. This week I made sure I also added some extra bits and I am going to make it my mission to take my lunch to work every day.
Do you plan for the week or are you a "on the day" kinda person?
I know I mentioned in my new years resolution post for the new year and I did mention at the time that losing weight was one of my 2013 goals. I dont want this to become a blog all about weight loss - thats not what I want but I have found this blog turninh into a beauty/lifestyle blog and losing weight is part of my life right now so want go share it with you all in the hope it may inspire any of stuck in a weight rutt go join in too. If you are and you are on twitter message me @laura8289. I would love to hear from you.
Anyway I may have mentioned before I go to slimming world which I love. The plans really suit me and I find them easy to do. When I stick to them 100% I know I can lose weight. I go the class at my local library on a Thursday so off I tootled tonight to discover I had lost 3 pounds!!! I am over the moon. Ive had a good week and this has really given me a boost towards losing weight prior to my holiday! I dont just want to lose weight I want to become healthy and fit too! However when you come home from work at 5 and its pitch black then it doesnt inspire...
