Top 10 sites to see in London

So as promised here is Part 3 of the London Feature. My Top 10 sites to see in London. Again as I said before these are from my own personal experiences of visiting London. There are obviously a lot of sites in London, these are just my top 10 - some you may have thought of and some you may not. Again as before these are not in any particular order.

1. Buckingham Palace/ The Mall

Now Buckingham Palace is obviously a very famous landmark in London, probably one of the most famous in fact. The Mall is also a lovely site to see. If you walk down the Mall you can see Clarence House and St James Palace (which also have guards outside of them - and a very friendly photogenic policeman when we went)

2. Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square is again a lovely site to see and one of the famous landmarks in London. Home to Nelsons Column, The national gallery and the famous lions and fountains. However I bet you never thought about going to check in out at Night. It is absolutely lovely. The fountains are all lit up and if you stand on the edge of Trafalgar Square and look down Whitehall you can see Big Ben all sit up too!

3. Tower Bridge
Sure its a bridge, you can walk across it. But until we visited London this time I had never known about it going up and down. Well obviously I knew if did go up and down but well anyway. If you fancy seeing Tower Bridge lift to let a ship through you can see the timetable here - it was actually really facinating to watch. I was really amazed by how quick it happend! It was over in about 3 minutes - up, ship through and back down! Its really worth seeing if your in London when its going up.

4. Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament
There is nothing quite like hearing Big Ben chime at the sound of the hour. Its really worth a look. Take a look up close but also go over the bridge and take some pictures from across the water too where you can see the whole building.

5. Whitehall
Home to horse guards parade, downing street, the cenotaph as well as many other important buildings. Definatly worth a walk from one end to the other. Its probably about 1/2 a mile walk and will take you maybe 10-15 minutes, maybe longer if you stop to look at all the sites.

6. Platform 9 3/4
As a massive Harry Potter fan there is absolutely nothing (well apart from being at the Wizarding world of Harry Potter in Florida or maybe the Harry Potter studio tour) than standing against this wall pushing the trolly through to Platform 9 3/4. The Platform is located at Kings Cross station (where else) and is located past the entrance and round the side. Defiantly a must for all Harry Potter fans!

7. St Pauls Cathedral
We didnt go into the cathedral when we went. We just sort of skated round the edge of it as we went around the time the protesters were camping outside. What we saw was beautiful though.

8. The Parks
Now you may not think of going all the way to London to see some green space. I mean there are lots of other sites to see. But the parks in London are really lovely. We walked through Green Park when we were on the way to Buckingham Palace. Its was fully of lovely summery deckchairs (if only we had the weather) when we went in June. Go on.. get yourself a bit of green space.

9. Tower of London.
Again we havent actually been into the Tower of London but the surrounding area is worth a look. Walk right down the bank not just sticking with the main sites. Also keep your eyes peeled for original parts of the tower wall. We stumbled part of the original wall through courtyard to Grange Hotel on Coopers Row. Its worth a look because it is so unexpected where is is.

10. London in Winter
Not really a site but defiantly 100% worth a visit. The above photo was taken at the end of November in 2010. The good thing about going at this time of year was that all of the poppies still surrounded the cenotaph which was absolutely fantastic to see. What was also fab though was when we strolled down the shopping areas it was littered with Christmassness and Christmas decorations!

More London Feature coming soon!!!
