Finding out that we were expecting

One of the first things that people start asking you when you get married is when the babies will follow. Adam and I had always been very clear in our own minds that once we were married we would start trying to expand our family.
Then it didn’t happen straight away.. we tried and tried for just over 12 months to the point we actually started to question if something could be behind it and we went to the GP.
They do however say that everything happens for a reason and in the space of 12 months from getting married, we brought and decorated our first home after 3 years of renting and I lost my grandad.

I won’t ever forget the day we found out that we were expecting! Mainly because it was the day of my cousins wedding. It was a Saturday morning and since about Wednesday or Thursday I had been feeling a little offside.. sicky and not myself but I just put it down to my monthly visitor who was due on the Monday. On the Saturday of the wedding I got up early so we had plenty of time to get ready and went to get in the shower. After months of disappointment I got out of the habit of doing pregnancy tests before my missed period telling myself that I would only do one if I was late. However for some reason on this day I fished the digital pregnancy test from the cupboard and did the business. I popped it on to the side convincing myself it was going to be negative and flicked on the shower. Just as I was going to get undressed to get in the shower, I took a peek at the test expecting to see the words not pregnant however the word not wasn’t there. It just said pregnant!!!
I couldn’t believe it!! I was in total shock! I flicked off the shower and went downstairs to Adam who was sitting on the sofa. I handed him the test still unable to believe what I had seen! I always planned to do some massively cute reveal for him but I just couldn’t - maybe next time eh! We sat there for a good half an hour, I burst in to tears of happiness and we sat there shell shocked!
We decided to tell my mum and dad that morning before the wedding as they would have found it very suspicious that I wasn’t drinking (especially as I had been with my dad when he brought the bottle of disarono he was smuggling to the wedding in a hip flask 😂) so we went to Asda and picked up 2 dummies in a little bag and put a tag on them that said see you in April.

It’s hard to believe how long ago that was now! It was so hard keeping it a secret! I was definitely glad when we went for our first scan and could tell everyone - what they say is true... it really is one of the hardest secrets you ever keep!
