Foodie Post: Homemade Apple Crumble

Now I absolutely LOVE apple crumble... I mean love. Its definitely my favorite pudding and if its on offer when we go out then its my top choice. Now as you know I also love baking so every now and again I like to treat myself and my family and make one at home. Mum and Dad have been on holiday for 2 weeks and I wanted to cook a nice tea when they got back on Friday I wanted to cook something yummy. So I thought I would make an apple crumble for after a pie I made (I will do another blog post). Apple Crumble is SO easy to make an so cheap!!!

You will need:
For the crumble
  • 300g plain flour
  • 175g sugar
  • 200g unsalted butter

For the filling
  • 450g apples
  • 50g sugar
  • 1 pinch of ground cinnamon
  1. Put your flour and sugar into a bowl and mix it in.
  2. Add butter (cubed) into bowl and rub it together - you can used your fingers to do is but I usually use a fork. The consistency which you are looking for is like bread crumbs.
  3. Put topping to one side
  4. Cut apples up into cubes. You can put it straight into the pie and bake but when I do it I usually cook the apples first in a sauce pan. Put them in a sauce pan and add sugar until the apples are soft.
  5. Add the apple filling to a large bowl and add the topping on the top.
  6. Put into the oven on Gas Mark 4
  7. Cook for around 40 minutes or until top is golden brown.
  8. Serve with custard or cream
Yummy :)

Obviously you can do this with other fruit too.. But you cant beat a hearty apple crumble - especially on those cold autumn winter nights!
