Goals for 2018

Obviously as we are nearly at the end of January now, I am late to the 2018 goals post.. however for kicks (and so they are written down somewhere) I thought I would do it anyway.

At nearly 7 months pregnant, my goals are not your typical ones for January... theres still all the things you would expect on there but with a twist

Healthy Eating
Although my main goal until after baby is born is not to lose any weight, I have continued with slimming world throughout my pregnancy and am maintaining my weight well (in fact i am still 5 pounds lighter than I was when I found out I was pregnant). My reason for carrying on with Slimming World while pregnant was not because it is my intention to drop weight while pregnant, I however did not want to be 2 or 3 stone heavier at the end of my pregnancy than I was when I started.

Meal planning
Normally I am really good with meal planning, however over the last couple of months I haven’t been as good as I was. I tend to plan all our meals for the week before I go food shopping then do my food shop based on what we are eating for the week. We have started using muscle food to order our meat from (which has been fab - separate review to follow) so a trip to the supermarket just means getting the essentials. It helps save pennies in the long run as it means we are not throwing away lots of unwanted food away.

No unnecessary spending
With impending maternity leave just around the corner (10 weeks and counting) I am on a mission to try and save the pennies as much as we can. Although pretty good compared with some work places, its still going to be tight for us while I am on maternity leave which means cutting back on unnecessary spending like coffees at work, not taking lunch, no takeaways etc.

Self Care and Mindset
Big changes occurring in the future and I want to make sure that while everything else is going on, I take the time to look after myself too. I've got a couple of books on Mindset and will be making sure I take the time to myself, even if it is just for 5 or 10 minutes.

This seems to have been on my list for the last 2 or 3 years now and I think I am yet to get through even 1 book every couple of months let alone 1 per month. I am vowing to myself to read at least 1 book per month this year!

Proper skincare routine
Again another one I want to get nailed before little miss arrives. I really need to get in a better skincare routine. I have got into a terrible habit of taking my makeup off using micellar water and although not as bad as a makeup wipe, I have stacks of hot cloth cleanser in my stash which I need to get into the habit of using. Plus as I am slowly approaching 30 (13 months to go) I want to start establishing a better skin care routine.

What are your goals for 2018??

Catch up.. revitalising my blog and my 11 months away!

2017.. what a year!

I decided in March last year to take a little blogging break because I had lots going on in my at home family life. My life was completely turned upside down when my grandad was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer. In April, just 3 weeks after the diagnosis he passed away. I've spoken before on here about what a close family we are and how much my grandparents mean to me and losing my granddad came as a huge blow and something which took me a long time to come to terms with.

In one of the last posts I wrote in Feb last year, I mentioned that Adam and I had put the offer in for our first home. Everything moved really quickly as we weren't in a chain and just 10 weeks after first seeing the house we had the keys! As the house needed a little bit of work doing to it (only cosmetic stuff to begin with - new fitted wardrobes, painting, new carpets etc) and we had to give 4 weeks notice on our rented property, we had a 4 week gap between getting the keys which meant we were able to get everything we wanted done and on 16th May we moved in!

The Summer of 2017 brought hen parties and weddings as both my cousin and one of my oldest friends got married. We had a little jaunt to Cardiff to see the Doctor Who experience before it moved and I completed the pretty muddy.

Quite possibly the most exciting thing to happen in the summer actually happened on the morning of my cousins wedding when after 12 months of trying we finally saw the words PREGNANT on a clear blue test! I can't even tell you our excitement!

The last 6 months have flown by! I'm now 25 weeks pregnant!! It has honestly gone so quickly. I will do a whole separate post on pregnancy so far, its been a journey and I can't wait for the next 3 months until our little bundle arrives!

2018 is going to be a good year. I finally feel ready to get behind the keyboard and find some love for my blog again. Its had a shiny new makeover and I am hoping it can become a place to share thoughts of a first time mummy, somewhere to document as our baby grows and lots of other lifestyle, food and beauty along the way!

Things you learn in the first 12 months of marriage...

Today marks exactly 242 days since Adam and I got married - since yesterday was Valentines day I thought I would do something different today... So here is some things I have learnt in the 8 months we have been married and some advice for things we do as a newly married couple..

Date Night
No matter how busy our lives are, Adam and I always try to make the time for date night - we at least try to do it once a week or fortnight depending on what we have on... sometimes this involves dates to the cinema or some other activity or some nights just snuggling up on the sofa watching a film or box sets on TV. Mine and Adams work schedules are very different. I work Monday - Friday where as he works weekends with the occasional sunday off so it is really important for us that we schedule in this time of just us!

Babies
The minute you tie the knot everyone suddenly wants to know when the babies are going to follow.. they can't just let you enjoy the time as a couple first! Be prepared for this question.

Don't loose the cuteness
Even now I get butterflies when I see that he has text me. He still now sends me texts in the middle of the day just to say I love you or to make me smile. Don't loose that.

Start traditions
Its the perfect time to start things you can keep going for years <3

Share..
Adam and I have developed a thing where we share the housework... I cook and he washes up.. little things like that... it makes such a difference. Try not to become one of the couples where its very one sided because resentment can easily creep in

Cuppa and Catch up #9

Can you believe we are nearly half way through February already!!! The last couple of weeks have been completely and utterly mental to say the least.

Last weekend, Adam and I went on a little trip after church to Marks and Spencer to pick up some bread and milk and I wanted to have a quick look as I had a vouchers from my consultants at work which I was yet to spend. While mooching around the home section waiting for Adam, I got looking at cushions, then sofas. While sitting on a sofa (cuz ya know you have to try them out), Adam and I got into a conversation about house buying - the conversation basically went that Adam said we couldn't buy a new sofa until we either brought the house we were in or moved. So anyway.. bread and milk later we got home and I spent Sunday afternoon mooching on Zoopla... Monday I made an appointment to go and see a house just round the corner from us and on Wednesday (my birthday) we went to view the house. I wasn't expecting us to love the first one we went to see but you know what they say.. sometimes you just know!
Anyway on Friday this happened!!!

We put an offer in on the house and it was accepted!!!

We have been saving for our own house since me and Adam got together. I couldn't be happier that it is finally happening! Renting has been great as it allowed us to create out first homes together when distance kept us apart... I can not wait to make a house OUR home.. to be able to do exactly what we want to do to it and to customise it in the way we want to! I will be sure to keep you all updated on the developments!
