The say that time flies when your having fun and let me tell you there’s nothing like having a baby to throw this statement into your face! One minute your on the delivery suite waiting to meet your previous baby for the first time and the next she’s turning 18 months old!
As someone with an incredibly close relationship to my own mum, having children of my own, especially the prospect of having a daughter is something I have been excited for, for a long time.
Being a mum is one of the best and most challenging things I have ever done. No matter how many people you chat to beforehand, no one can prepare you for the real highs and lows that being a parent truly brings. The joy of a new word or new thing learnt or hearing them shout mummy at you far outweighs the anguish of not sleeping, feeding dramas and the general bad days that come with raising a tiny human determined to make their own mind up about the world.
At 18 months old, Erin has now developed her own proper cheeky personality! She has a look of pure mischief and cheekiness on her face a good 60% of the time. She is so confident in walking now and her speech is coming on so quickly! I honestly feel like I come home every day to a new word! It’s so amazing watching her learn!
I have to say I am enjoying this age! Not that I haven’t enjoyed it so far but it’s so lovely now she can communicate with us properly! She is absolutely going to be a girl who knows what she wants and goes for it as we can already see this quality in her! She’s also got absolutely no fear and will give anything a go which I hope is something (safety provided of course) that she doesn’t lose!
We recently started swimming lessons after searching for so long to find a class that fitted in with out schedule and I can honestly say I am so happy with the class. It’s early days as Erin has only done 2 lessons but I can always see her confidence blooming!
I’m not going to be one of those people who says having a toddler at this age is perfect, it comes with it’s own challenges of crying because she’s frustrated and not sleeping (thanks 18 month sleep regression you bitch) and the final leg of teething for a while but on the whole as I said before, the good days far outweigh the bad! I mean look at that gorgeous smile!
Here in the UK, we will be celebrating Mothers Day this Sunday. With Baby Barlow still tucked away in my tummy I have to wait until next year to celebrate my first proper mothers day with our little girl (however totally counts this year too eh.. someone give Adam the heads up!)
I thought I would share with you a few ideas for those last minute mothers day gift ideas.
Yankee Candle - £23.99 (Large) - You really can't go wrong with a Yankee Candle can you? My mum loves the sweet smelling ones and the summer scoop has become a firm favourite since they discontinued the Salted Caramel one (sob sob sob) - They have some amazing flavours and because they do a range of candles from Tea Lights and Votives right up to the large jars there is something for every budget. They also have some great burners too for the melts which make a fab present.
Mum Mug - Cath Kidston - £8 - You know your getting old when there is nothing better than a good mug to drink your brew of choice from.. I have a couple of Cath Kidston mugs and they are my favourite ones because they are the perfect size for a cup of tea. They have a variety of different mugs for Mother’s Day on their website and in store.
FMLY store - Mother Jumper - £50 - You have probably seen these jumpers all over Instagram as they are very popular! I’m totally in love with the style and the colour and really want one! They also do Tshirts and other clothing types too
Sanctuary Spa Mum to be a ultimate retreat - Boots - £17.99 - There are some lovely mummy and mummy to be pamper kits out there and I particularly like this one from Sanctuary Spa.. what’s better than a pamper eh?
Afternoon tea - varies - lots of places do special offers around Mother’s Day for afternoon tea and it is the perfect girly treat out! The above picture is from a little cafe called Bygones in town near me which is £20 per person and worth every penny. I know near me there are places like Emma Bridgwater where they do afternoon tea and pottery painting and Wedgewood where you can go for afternoon tea and a factory tour. Deffo worth looking at the places around you!
