One of the first things that people start asking you when you get married is when the babies will follow. Adam and I had always been very clear in our own minds that once we were married we would start trying to expand our family.
Then it didn’t happen straight away.. we tried and tried for just over 12 months to the point we actually started to question if something could be behind it and we went to the GP.
They do however say that everything happens for a reason and in the space of 12 months from getting married, we brought and decorated our first home after 3 years of renting and I lost my grandad.
I won’t ever forget the day we found out that we were expecting! Mainly because it was the day of my cousins wedding. It was a Saturday morning and since about Wednesday or Thursday I had been feeling a little offside.. sicky and not myself but I just put it down to my monthly visitor who was due on the Monday. On the Saturday of the wedding I got up early so we had plenty of time to get ready and went to get in the shower. After months of disappointment I got out of the habit of doing pregnancy tests before my missed period telling myself that I would only do one if I was late. However for some reason on this day I fished the digital pregnancy test from the cupboard and did the business. I popped it on to the side convincing myself it was going to be negative and flicked on the shower. Just as I was going to get undressed to get in the shower, I took a peek at the test expecting to see the words not pregnant however the word not wasn’t there. It just said pregnant!!!
I couldn’t believe it!! I was in total shock! I flicked off the shower and went downstairs to Adam who was sitting on the sofa. I handed him the test still unable to believe what I had seen! I always planned to do some massively cute reveal for him but I just couldn’t - maybe next time eh! We sat there for a good half an hour, I burst in to tears of happiness and we sat there shell shocked!

We decided to tell my mum and dad that morning before the wedding as they would have found it very suspicious that I wasn’t drinking (especially as I had been with my dad when he brought the bottle of disarono he was smuggling to the wedding in a hip flask 😂) so we went to Asda and picked up 2 dummies in a little bag and put a tag on them that said see you in April.
It’s hard to believe how long ago that was now! It was so hard keeping it a secret! I was definitely glad when we went for our first scan and could tell everyone - what they say is true... it really is one of the hardest secrets you ever keep!
Obviously as we are nearly at the end of January now, I am late to the 2018 goals post.. however for kicks (and so they are written down somewhere) I thought I would do it anyway.
At nearly 7 months pregnant, my goals are not your typical ones for January... theres still all the things you would expect on there but with a twist
Healthy Eating
Although my main goal until after baby is born is not to lose any weight, I have continued with slimming world throughout my pregnancy and am maintaining my weight well (in fact i am still 5 pounds lighter than I was when I found out I was pregnant). My reason for carrying on with Slimming World while pregnant was not because it is my intention to drop weight while pregnant, I however did not want to be 2 or 3 stone heavier at the end of my pregnancy than I was when I started.
Meal planning
Normally I am really good with meal planning, however over the last couple of months I haven’t been as good as I was. I tend to plan all our meals for the week before I go food shopping then do my food shop based on what we are eating for the week. We have started using muscle food to order our meat from (which has been fab - separate review to follow) so a trip to the supermarket just means getting the essentials. It helps save pennies in the long run as it means we are not throwing away lots of unwanted food away.
No unnecessary spending
With impending maternity leave just around the corner (10 weeks and counting) I am on a mission to try and save the pennies as much as we can. Although pretty good compared with some work places, its still going to be tight for us while I am on maternity leave which means cutting back on unnecessary spending like coffees at work, not taking lunch, no takeaways etc.
Self Care and Mindset
Big changes occurring in the future and I want to make sure that while everything else is going on, I take the time to look after myself too. I've got a couple of books on Mindset and will be making sure I take the time to myself, even if it is just for 5 or 10 minutes.
This seems to have been on my list for the last 2 or 3 years now and I think I am yet to get through even 1 book every couple of months let alone 1 per month. I am vowing to myself to read at least 1 book per month this year!
Proper skincare routine
Again another one I want to get nailed before little miss arrives. I really need to get in a better skincare routine. I have got into a terrible habit of taking my makeup off using micellar water and although not as bad as a makeup wipe, I have stacks of hot cloth cleanser in my stash which I need to get into the habit of using. Plus as I am slowly approaching 30 (13 months to go) I want to start establishing a better skin care routine.
What are your goals for 2018??

2017.. what a year!
I decided in March last year to take a little blogging break because I had lots going on in my at home family life. My life was completely turned upside down when my grandad was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer. In April, just 3 weeks after the diagnosis he passed away. I've spoken before on here about what a close family we are and how much my grandparents mean to me and losing my granddad came as a huge blow and something which took me a long time to come to terms with.
In one of the last posts I wrote in Feb last year, I mentioned that Adam and I had put the offer in for our first home. Everything moved really quickly as we weren't in a chain and just 10 weeks after first seeing the house we had the keys! As the house needed a little bit of work doing to it (only cosmetic stuff to begin with - new fitted wardrobes, painting, new carpets etc) and we had to give 4 weeks notice on our rented property, we had a 4 week gap between getting the keys which meant we were able to get everything we wanted done and on 16th May we moved in!
The Summer of 2017 brought hen parties and weddings as both my cousin and one of my oldest friends got married. We had a little jaunt to Cardiff to see the Doctor Who experience before it moved and I completed the pretty muddy.
Quite possibly the most exciting thing to happen in the summer actually happened on the morning of my cousins wedding when after 12 months of trying we finally saw the words PREGNANT on a clear blue test! I can't even tell you our excitement!
The last 6 months have flown by! I'm now 25 weeks pregnant!! It has honestly gone so quickly. I will do a whole separate post on pregnancy so far, its been a journey and I can't wait for the next 3 months until our little bundle arrives!
2018 is going to be a good year. I finally feel ready to get behind the keyboard and find some love for my blog again. Its had a shiny new makeover and I am hoping it can become a place to share thoughts of a first time mummy, somewhere to document as our baby grows and lots of other lifestyle, food and beauty along the way!
