Like many other ladies before I went away on holiday, I decided to get Shellac put on my nails. As you know I am obsessed with nails but as we were going for 2 and a half weeks I figured that getting Shellac put on would save the faffing with nail polish.
For those of you who dont know, let me first explain, Shellac is a gel polish which is set using a UV light and is meant to last for 2 - 3 weeks.
I spent a lot of time comparing prices of all the places in my local area. Initially I was just going to get my fingers done and local salons all seemed to charge the similar price of £25 for a shellac manicure. Then after chatting with my friend at work she told me about her cousin who did mobile beauty. It seemed perfect as 1 it would mean I wouldnt have to mess about getting myself to somewhere and 2. she was doing an offer where she was charging £25 for shellac on both fingers and toes.
I decided to get my nails done on the Wednesday we were due to go away - Matt was working until the afternoon so I booked in to have them done in the morning - I figured the closer I had them done to actually going away the longer they would last while I was away. Anyway I had them done I was in love with them.
About 2 or so days into the holiday I started to notice that the ends by my cuticles were starting to look a bit bedraggled - like they had been on a week or something.
Then on the Sunday after we got there (baring in mind we landed on the Thursday) we went to one of the water parks. I wasn't worried about my nails, I mean after all Shellac is marketed as the thing to have done before you go on holiday and people tend to swim on holiday so I didn't worry. When we got out of the water and back to the hotel I noticed I had 2 casualties! The ends of 2 of my finger nails had started to flake off!

Of course I took a photo for blogging purposes! Sorry its a bit grainy... This obviously is just one of my hands, I also lost slightly more on the index finger of my other hand and polish on a couple of my toes. I was gutted. I believe it hadn't even lasted a week considering it is meant to last 2 - 3 weeks with no chipping! I decided to brush it off and let it go however by the Monday night it was so bad that I ended up trekking across to Wall Greens and getting some Acetone nail polish, Cotton balls and a new nail polish to paint them with again!
Overall I have to say I pretty disappointed with Shellac. Now my first thought is to wonder if it is because I didnt have them done at a salon, but she followed all of the steps to put it on so I dont think it could be. I dont think it would be the fact I went swimming because as I say, I know plenty of people who have had it done before they go away.
I think maybe I would give Shellac another go. I havent fully decided yet. I was pretty disappointed to have wasted £25 before I went away to have my nails done, not to have them last a week but I am always willing to just see if it is one bad experience!
Have you ever tried Shellac? What was your experience like???
I knew when I went to America that they had some fab deals on cosmetics and some brands which were not available in the UK which made me quite excited as last time we went to Florida, I wasnt all up on the make up scene etc. Here are some of the bits I picked up - it looks here like it is all nail polish but there are some bits here that are not on here.
- American Apparel Nail Polishes - $15
- Sally Hansen Nail Polish Pens - $9
- Sinful Colour Nail Polishes - $1.99
- OPI Polish in Princesses Rule - $11
- Wet and Wild Glitter Polish (next to the sinful colours at the bottom) - $1.99
- Revlon glitter - $6
- Cover girl brown eyeliner - $5 (I think)
- Essie Top and Base Coat - $8
- EOS lip balm - $4 - I picked up 2 of these the other one is in my hand bag
I also picked up a few other bits which are currently in my make up bag - a couple of the 24 hour creme eye shadows in like a pale purple which I believe is limited edition and a nice whitey silver - both of which i dont think we have over here yet. I also got a L'oreal Telescopic brown eyeliner which I haven't ever seen here either. I picked up about 3 or 4 mascaras too but i will probably do a separate post on those too because they are still in my case (which I need to properly unpack). I also have the Mac Paint pot that I picked up at Manchester Airport - that is in the shade Bare Study. I also picked up one of the Its a 10 hair leave in hair product which i know Fleur over at fleur de force raves about all the time!
So far I am loving the EOS lip balm - I had heard good things about why I picked them up. I have also used the OPI a couple of times which I love too. Again I will probably do a separate post on that too to show you how pretty it is!
I know there seems quite a bit here but when things are the same price here in pounds as they are over there in dollars it seemed daft not to pick up some bits while I was there. I will do separate posts on things as I start using them.
Hey everyone!
So I have been back in the county for just a week now and man this week has gone fast! I had intended updating you before now but as I say I just cant believe this week has gone so fast.
Anyway I'll tell you all about my jollies :)
We had booked 16/17 nights away way back in December and it seemed to take forever to come around. We hadnt been to Florida together for exactly 3 years (Matt had been with his mum and dad one year) and when we were looking at holidays Florida always seems to come up. We decided to go for 17 nights because basically it didnt really work out any more expensive so we figured why not have the extra time there.
We were due to fly on 30th May from Manchester to Orlando (via Philadelphia - basically because we saved ourselves £100s doing it that way and we did it last time we went and it wasnt too bad) and on the 29th May, my friend from work had booked for Me and Matt to stay at the Radison Blu at Manchester Airport. She always stays in the hotel before she goes away and thought it would be nice to do too as it takes the stress away. It was good because it also meant that Matt was able to drive as being a week day when we flew, there was no one to easily take us to the airport.

(Left) The view from the hotel on our floor of terminal 2 - (Right) Our lovely Room
After we had a lovely stay in the hotel we then made the 2 minute walk (literally - it was so lovely to not have to faff on the morning we were flying) off to Terminal 2 to find out our flight was delayed by nearly 3 hours. It actually didnt feel too bad, I think maybe because we hadnt got up at the crack of dawn to be at the airport, we basically just rolled out of the hotel to the terminal. We basically spent the 3 hours mooching around duty free (which would have been a lot more dangerous if I had taken my bank card but I did make a sneaky purchase on the mac counter).
I dont want to go into a whole break down of what we did on every single day of the holiday. But basically we had a lovely time. We had tickets for all the parks so we did all of the Disney parks, Universal studios & Islands of Adventure, Sea World etc so we had a great time checking out all of the parks!!! I thought i would just share with you some photos of the holiday - I didnt actually take too many photos - well I took about 500 but it is not as many as I have taken when I have been before! So here is just a few to share with you!
Oh course you have to have a photo with Micky! And yes that is a Mac I am wearing, it was chucking it down!
This has got to be one of my favourite places & sites in Orlando :)
My first ever visit to iHop! Such yummy Banana and Strawberry - so naughty but so nice!
The biggest and best nachos EVER at Millers - you can not even imagine how big this is! So big i only eat a quarter and took the rest back to the hotel in a container.
I'm not sure you can comprehend this photo properly - see the water by the car - that was where the road flooded one day when it rained really bad!
Apple Shop goodies! All the overtime was deffinatly worth it!
Rocking the Micky ears at Magic Kingdom!
With Pluto :)
And of Course the Castle!!!
It was such a lovely holiday although it seems like a bit of a distant memory now! I have got a few bits that I brought when I was out there to tell you all about and also a few products that I took with me that I want to review for you so stay tuned for that.
Hey guys!!!
I just thought I would bob on and say hey! I was going to try and update you on a regular basis to what we were up to while here in Florida but the hotel we are staying in only has wifi in the lobby and we are staying on the 4th floor just out of reach of being able to get it in our room!
Anyway it is so hot over here! I am currently a various different shades of red, pink and tanned with white marks where my swimming costume straps and back pack have been! So far we have worked our way through some of the theme parks! We have done 3 of the Disney parks - Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood studios and have done Sea world, universal and islands of adventure and aquatica.
Today we are going back to sea world to do a behind the scenes penguin tour which we are doing for Matts birthday which is next week! I'll tell you all about it and share some pictures with you.
I have picked up a few beauty bits up here and have at least 1 review for you when I get home of the shellac I had done but I am sure I will pick up some more beauty stuff before we leave!!!
I don't know if I will post again while I am away, the layout of the hotel is different then when we came before so it is not as easy for me to get online. I will probably just share some photos when I get back.
Hope your all well and speak to you soon xxx
